The Ortofon 2M Blue is the upgraded version of the Ortofon 2M Red. The main upgrade is the nude elliptical stylus (the diamond stylus is directly attached to cantiliever with no mounting block or shank, resulting in a more accurate and forgiving output). The 2M Blue also features improved frequency range and tracking. The unique exterior design is both visually pleasing and functional with a size and weight that will work with most turntables (plus easy mounting characteristics).

The name 2M was selected from among several ideas. We wanted a modern name that would be easy to pronounce and remember, and therefore an alphanumerical name was chosen. 2M means MM, which is the abbreviation for moving magnet.

Of course the 2M isn’t just another pretty face. It has been engineered to the highest standards and is congruent with Ortofon’s unrelenting commitment to providing the most precise and accurate reproduction possible without coloration.

The 2M Bronze uses a special upgraded engine, featuring split pole pins with a silver plated copper wire.

We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, and the weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. The 2M Series provides excellent compatibility when used in an assortment of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamps.

The cartridge body used for the 2M Bronze is manufactured from a newly-developed Lexan DMX Piano Black, a revolutionary material which ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances.

The Ortofon DJ cartridges offer a clear visible cantilever with a red stylus point, which makes it easier to locate the stylus in the groove. This robust cartridge has been provided with a special telescopic cantilever construction consisting of a double tube design where the diameter of the outer tube at the same time has been raised from 0.7 to 0.8 mm. The Ortophon DJ models expose the highest output compared to any other makes.

Spherical stylus is perfect for tough handling and scratching.
Scratching and back-cueing impose heavy mechanical stress on the cantilever and its rubber bearing. Therefore, the Ortofon disco cartridges are equipped with cantilevers made from aluminium tube with increased wall thickness.
Special attention has also been paid to the attachment of the bearing and the design of the bearing itself. This means that rough treatment will neither damage the cartridge nor degrade its stability.
